What is the micro needling and how does it work?
Micro needling is a non-invasive procedure that involves using a derma roller that has many fine, very sharp needles. As the Dermaroller is moved over the surface skin, a series of micro-fine needles penetrate into the dermis and create thousands of microscopic channels or columns. The dermis contains a complex of nerve cells, collagen, elastin and fibroblasts cells that produce and repair this essential part of our bodies. By targeting this area, the body is prompted to naturally start to regenerate and repair the skin by forming new collagen, new skin cells and enhancing the blood supply. The result is smoother, fresher, brighter, firmer and younger looking skin.
What conditions can be treated?
- Acne and chicken pox scarring
- Skin tightening and antiageing (soften fine lines on the face and hands, and Thickens the skin to reduce lines and wrinkles)
- Improve the appearance of stretch marks.
- Reduction in the pores size
- Helps to reduce pigmentation marks
- Hair loss
Does the dermaroller hurt?
The area will be anaesthetised with a topical local anaesthetic and therefore should not be painful. However the brow area and the upper lip are slightly more sensitive to treat.
You may find a temporary reddening of the skin for an hour or so after treatment .We recommend the use of sunscreen / block after use.
Can the microneedling help with hair loss?
Yes, over a 3 month period patient treated with the Derma Roller experienced an increase in hair growth and significant reduction in hair loss.
How long the session will last?
A topical anaesthetic cream to numb the skin and minimize discomfort will takes up to 45 minutes to work and depending on the size of the area being treated, the treatment itself will take between 20-30 minutes. Results are not instant. It can take around 4 weeks to show results. It is usual to undergo 3 treatments 6 weeks apart to gain maximum effect. Thereafter, all that’s needed is ‘maintenance’ treatment.
How many sessions do I need?
An average of 4-8 sessions may be needed, varying from individual needs.
What is the duration between the sessions?
For face, sessions are done at a gap of 4-6 weeks while for scalp the gap is 2-4 weeks.
Is it safe?
Dermaroller has an excellent safety profile and minimal risks. However, it is important to to be used by trained doctor using sterile techniques in an appropriate clinical environment.
What do I do after treatment?
On face- Immediately after the treatment you’ll look as though you have moderate sunburn and your skin may feel warmer and tighter than usual. This will start to subside after 1 to 2 hours and will normally recover within days with only slight redness the following days. We recommend that make up should not be applied for 12 hours after and sun protection is must. In the following days, your skin may be drier than normal as it starts to regenerate and repair it, so a moisturiser can be added to your daily skin regime.
