What is hair transplant?

The hair transplant procedure involves taking hair follicles from the back side of the head or some other body area and transplanting them to thinning or balding areas. With follicular unit technologies, this results in a very natural appearance.

How many grafts will I need?

It is very difficult to answer without a consultation with our doctor, because the number of grafts required will ultimately depend on the texture and quality of your hair. During your primary consultation ,the doctor will examine your scalp, both the recipient and donor areas.after this an estimate of number of gragts will be provided. The consultation is critical, of importance and can lasts about 45 minutes For example, darker, coarser hair may require fewer grafts to cover the same area as compared to lighter colour, fine hair. It will also depend upon your degree of baldness and your density goals.

Will transplanted hairs look completely natural?

When done perfectly, it can be so natural that no one can judge that you’ve had it done. But the skill and a technique of hair transplant doctor does vary widely, as do their results. It’s important to choose the right procedure and clinic to assure that you will get completely natural results. The state of art hair transplantation procedure that we recommend is called “Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation”.

How long does a hair transplant procedure take?

A typical session of between 1,500 to 3,000 grafts normally involves a full day (7-8 hours) of surgery on an outpatient basis.

Is it very painful?

Patients are given local anesthesia in the donor and recipient areas. Most patients find that once the anesthesia is given then they feel no pain or discomfort during the surgery. Following surgery patients will typically feel some amount of soreness and numbness, with some mild discomfort.

What is the recovery time?

Most patients feel fine within a day or two following surgery, although some numbness and mild soreness can be expected for several days following surgery.

When will my newly transplanted hair start to grow?

Normally it takes between three to six months following surgery before the transplanted hair follicles begin to grow new hair. After one year a patient’s transplanted hair will be fully mature.

Are the results permanent?

The hair follicles that are transplanted to the recipient areas are genetically resistant to going bald; they will continue to grow for a life time.

Will I get a full head of hair?

Hair transplant redistributes existing, healthy hair. It does not create any new hair. So it is not possible to provide a full head of hair. However, a comparatively small amount of hair transplanted expertly can produce the illusion of substantially more hair than there actually is. The results will improve how you look to others and to yourself.

Can hair transplant be performed on female?

Baldness occurs in women is known as Female pattern Hair loss. It is also genetic and there is a family history. It can also be corrected with Hair Transplant Surgery. There are many other causes for Hair loss and thinning of hair in women. Proper examination and evaluation can detect the underlying cause. The hair loss can be corrected in these people with proper medical treatment alone also.
Can Hair Transplantation be done in scars on the head?
Yes., hair can be restored in the scars of the scalp which occurred due to burns, chemical injuries, accidents and surgical procedures on the scalp. Since the supporting skin is weak in these areas, we ususally perform patch tests first. Depending on the results,the complete transplant session is planned.

Can hair be transplanted on eyebrows?

Hair can be technically transplanted anywhere on the body. While the most common areas are Eyebrows and moustache – beard, side burns and eye lashes can also be successfully transplanted.

Can Hair Transplantation be done in scars on the head?

What precautions should I take before and after surgery?

Maintain an adequate length of hair on the back of your head. Your donor grafts will be removed from here and you should expect coverage following your procedure.
Two weeks before surgery

  • NO TOPICAL LOTION
  • NO ASPIRIN or anti-inflammatory medications containing Aspirin.
  • NO VITAMIN tablets.
  • Day before surgery
  • NO ALCOHOL

Operating day

  • Wash your hair in the morning using your betadine shampoo
  • No tight sweaters or pullovers.
  • No tight hats or caps.
  • Do not wear anything that will have to be pulled tightly over your head.
  • Eat a light meal just before coming to the clinic
What are some possible complications?

Itching : Some itching commonly occurs and lasts only a few days. Shampooing the hair daily will help the discomfort.
Swelling: There is some swelling in nearly all cases. It affects the forehead and the area around the eyes and lasts two to five days, being maximal on the fourth day. However, it does little harm and lasts no more than a week.
Infection : This happens in very rare cases and is easily cured with antibiotics.
Scarring: Keloid scarring occurs only in pre-disposed individuals.
Neuralgia : Once in a while some patient reports varying combinations of symptoms, usually lasting for one to four weeks. Very rarely have patients had neuralgia last a longer time period. Prolonged or severe symptoms are exceedingly rare and virtually always disappear within a few months.

Why isn’t it possible to graft somebody else hair on my scalp?

It would lead to a systematic rejection because somebody else hair will be considered as a foreign body.

When can I have a shower?

You can have your first shower 48 to 72 hours after your surgery.
